ARC Review & Excerpt: Say You'll Remember Me by Katie McGarry

Author: Katie McGarry
Publisher: Harlequin Teen
Number of Pages: 400
Release Date: January 30, 2018
Amazon I Goodreads

Synopsis:
"When Drix was convicted of a crime--one he didn't commit--he thought his life was over. But opportunity came with the Second Chance Program, the governor's newest pet project to get delinquents off the streets, rehabilitated and back into society. Drix knows this is his chance to get his life back on track, even if it means being paraded in front of reporters for a while.
Elle knows she lives a life of privilege. As the governor's daughter, she can open doors with her name alone. But the expectations and pressure to be someone she isn't may be too much to handle. She wants to follow her own path, whatever that means.
When Drix and Elle meet, their connection is immediate, but so are their problems. Drix is not the type of boy Elle's parents have in mind for her, and Elle is not the kind of girl who can understand Drix's messy life.
But sometimes love can breach all barriers.
Fighting against a society that can't imagine them together, Drix and Elle must push themselves--Drix to confront the truth of the robbery, and Elle to assert her independence--and each other to finally get what they deserve."
I was so excited to read a new Katie McGarry book, and this book did not disappoint. The plot sounded very original to me when I read the synopsis, and since I've loved all her other books, I was sure this one would be good too. And it was!

Katie is an amazing author in that she is able to develop her characters and the plot in a very detailed and meticulous fashion that does not make the romance seemed too rushed or make any of the characters feel unnecessary. I loved the sass and humor that Ellison and Drix shared, but their backstories also made their moments together very meaningful and adorable. I really loved the connection between these two, and I really want to be part of Drix's family. They all seem like such sincere and loving people, and I hope we get some spinoffs to get more of their stories.

I was not always convinced by some of the problems some of the characters had especially because it seemed like at one point there were six different major conflicts occurring at the same time. There were so many issues that I would get bored with certain perspectives because I lost interest in them in anticipation of the solution to other problems. Although the book ended off on a satisfying note, I felt myself losing interest through much of the middle.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a YA Contemporary especially if you have enjoyed Katie McGarry's previous books. Katie is one of the most consistently great YA authors I have read, and that's what I love about her! Definitely, check this one out.

~Ellison~
The sights and sounds of the midway fade, and all I hear is buzzing. I close my eyes as more pissed-off tears fill my eyes. Why won’t they go away?

“You okay?” a guy asks.

I open my eyes and focus on the ground. My eyes are red, I know they are. I can feel the puffiness of my skin. I take a deep breath, look up to explain I’m okay, and freeze.

Holy hell. It’s the boy from Whack-A-Mole. He’s so much more breathtaking this close, and I have no idea how that’s possible.

“Are those guys bothering you?” he asks.

My forehead furrows. Yes, they are, but telling him the truth and inviting him into my problems seems wrong.

“Since you’re so talkative, I’ll start the conversation,” he says. “If you want to get rid of those guys then stand here and talk to me, and I’ll stand here and talk to you. You can smile like you know me because it’s tough to make me smile, and it will seem fake. Then I can try to win you a stuffed animal. Won’t be a snake, but it will do. Those losers will catch on we’re friends. Eventually, they’ll keep walking, and then they’ll return to their loser frat house where they’ll play with themselves for the rest of the night because they don’t know how to properly talk to a girl.”

I blink because all thought processes have taken a mini break. Either that or I’m having a stroke.

“Just a smile. Maybe a few mumbled words. Tell me anything. Doesn’t have to be poetic. Just your lips moving in my direction without your current blank expression.”

I blink again, many times, as the sights, sounds and smells of the midway blast back as if someone had pushed the play button on my life. I flash the perfectly practiced public smile I’ve used too many other times in my life.

“I don’t know how to get them to leave me alone.” I pause, then the bitterness leaks out as well as a grim grin. “At least not without a baseball and a well-placed throw. Some people shouldn’t be allowed to continue their genetics.”

The right side of his mouth tips up, and my eyes narrow on him. “I thought you didn’t smile easily.”

“I have a twisted sense of humor, and I didn’t think a girl like you could make me laugh. You’ve done it twice now. That’s a record for the past year.”

I bristle, still on the dangerous edge of anger. “A girl like me?”

“Yeah, one that’s out of my league. Listen, if you want to get out of this situation without it escalating, let me know. Otherwise, I’ll take a step back, and you can do whatever you need. I’m all about helping, but I’m not looking to get into a fight. Your call on how this goes down, but if it’s violence, you’re on your own.”

He says he doesn’t want to partake in violence, but there’s an essence about him that says he could drop anyone at any time and do it without breaking a sweat.

He’s looking at me, I’m looking at him, and the flutter in my chest returns.

ARC Review: Stumbling into Love by Aurora Rose Reynolds

Author: Aurora Rose Reynolds
Series: Fluke My Life #2
Publisher: Montlake Romance
Number of Pages: 200
Goodreads l Amazon

Synopsis:
"Mackenzie Reed has officially been stood up. Not only has she wasted two years on Mr. So Not Interested but now she doesn’t even have pizza and the Mets to keep her company. Then hewalks into her life—more than six feet of rugged, hot stranger. Maybe, just for tonight, Mac can pretend to be a girl she’s not. After all, she deserves a little no-strings fun…
As far as Wesley Porter is concerned, one night with Mackenzie isn’t nearly enough. She’s a mystery he wants to solve—if he can keep her from running for the door every time they touch. There’s obviously some serious chemistry between them, so why is she fighting it?
As one sexy hookup turns into another (and another), Wesley is determined to prove they were made for each other. But Mac has been hurt before, and she refuses to fall for this sexy, ridiculously perfect guy. In fact, she has every intention of fighting it…unless he can convince her otherwise."
This is the second book in the Fluke My Life series by Aurora Rose Reynolds. Reynolds is one of my favorite romance writers, her stories always take me on an emotional rollercoaster and so I always one-click any book she releases. Her Until series are my absolute favorites to reread over and over again. Don't even ask me how many times I've read Until July, it's ridiculous.

This story had a lot to offer, Mackenzie and Wesley were an amazing couple who had a quite funny story. I really enjoyed reading about them and their chemistry. I finished the novel in one day, right before I went to bed and it was definitely entertaining. I loved how even though there were moments that Mackenzie wanted to seem girly, she stuck true to who she really is.

The only issue I had with this story is that it felt so rushed. I wanted more and the characters to have a little more time to develop and get to know each other. The story had a lot more to offer us than what was actually delivered.

Overall it was another enjoyable novel from Aurora Rose Reynolds that was a cute, quick romance read.

I am so excited for this book! I love reading books about other cultures and seeing what similarities I might have with them (as someone with parents who immigrated from India). I'm also excited to see more YA book with the main characters being in college.

Top Ten Books I Really Liked but Can’t Remember Much About

So most of these are books that I really want to read the next book of but have no clue what the hell is going on. I really believe that there needs to be a website that contains the summary of every book, so when the next book comes out you don't have to reread the previous. It would be much simpler and I would be more likely to finish more series.

These are in no particular order, and all of these books received 5 stars when I read them for the first time. I'll list when it came out, when I read it, and a review if there is one.

This book hit me hard due to the mental illness aspect of it. I remember shoving this book into the hands of every friend I had who was taking AP Psychology my junior year of high school. I don't remember much else besides some of the characters memories and a guy (Adam?) with a motorcycle.

Cover Reveal: Fireball by Nazarea Andrews

Release Date: March 8, 2018

Synopsis:
"He’s infuriating…
Dempsey Jones has been a nuisance my entire life, the straight-laced Boy Scout grown up to be a firefighter, of all things. He was the one helping kittens out of trees and old ladies cross the road while I was lighting cherry bombs with my best friend in abandoned buildings, and now that we’re all grown up—even if my Dad doesn’t agree—he’s still just as annoying.

She’s impossible…
Taite Ridley has been a constant my whole life, the curly haired mischievous daughter of the police chief, charming and devious and alluring. She was wild in ways I never dared to be and too big for our little town. But she’s here, a small town cop, and I can’t avoid her, even if I wanted to.

And I don’t want to.

It’s like mixing fire and gasoline and when these two collide, someone is gonna get burned…"
