Review: For Darkness Shows the Stars by Diana Peterfruend

For Darkness Shows the Stars (For Darkness Shows the Stars, #1)Author: Diana Peterfreund
Publisher: Balzar+Bray
Number of Pages: 402

Synopsis:
"It's been several generations since a genetic experiment gone wrong caused the Reduction, decimating humanity and giving rise to a Luddite nobility who outlawed most technology.
Elliot North has always known her place in this world. Four years ago Elliot refused to run away with her childhood sweetheart, the servant Kai, choosing duty to her family's estate over love. Since then the world has changed: a new class of Post-Reductionists is jumpstarting the wheel of progress, and Elliot's estate is foundering, forcing her to rent land to the mysterious Cloud Fleet, a group of shipbuilders that includes renowned explorer Captain Malakai Wentforth--an almost unrecognizable Kai. And while Elliot wonders if this could be their second chance, Kai seems determined to show Elliot exactly what she gave up when she let him go.
But Elliot soon discovers her old friend carries a secret--one that could change their society . . . or bring it to its knees. And again, she's faced with a choice: cling to what she's been raised to believe, or cast her lot with the only boy she's ever loved, even if she's lost him forever."
Okay so when I first saw this cover and read the synopsis, I was like: "GIVE IT TO ME! I MUST READ IT!" I really wish I hadn't wasted so much of my time reading this. According to Goodreads I read this from February 3rd to February 23rd (Sorry this review is coming really late but I got other stuff I told you I would post.) I usually fly through a book within 2 to 3 days if it's a decent book, but 20 days?!?!?! This book ain't getting even 3 stars! It doesn't hold my attention at all.

As I said, this book couldn't hold my attention. That means it wasn't interesting. At the beginning of the book I really was interesting until I hit about page 100. That was really when it just when downhill. When we realized what happened to Kai...I just stopped and threw my book on the floor and spit on it (not really!).

OH MY GOD! Can we talk about Kai for just a minute?!? HE IS A TOTAL JERK! I'm not even sure if he really, truly loved Elliot he would have been kinder to her at times. Who can watch a person they really love cry? Is Kai messed up or something.... OK, I know the answer to that but still. I hated him! At first I was just waiting for that kiss that they would regret. I hate myself so much!!!

Some aspects of this book just were really cute and some horrified me, like the birthing house. I wanted cry for those poor women. Olivia annoyed the crap out of me and god I wanted to hurt her. She was so eager to impress Kai...er- should I say Malakai. I'm guessing you guys can sense the sarcasm and hatred. Olivia was so eager to impress him she didn't even worry about embarrassing herself instead. Like woman, get your shit together! *huffs*

When we found out the truth about Kai about I was beyond pissed. At the same time, it made a lot of sense.

Guys, I'm getting mad all over again so I'm going to end it here. I know I said a lot of negative things about this book, but I really don't want to discourage you from reading this. If you, you think it looks good and you want to read it, then I'm telling you to read it. This is my thoughts of the book. You could end up giving this book 5 stars. If you do then leave a link to your review or just tell me that you gave it a good review.

  1. I had the same opinion! The synopsis sounded so good. I got bored of the book so quickly, I didn't bother to finish it.
